Make Your Next Baked Bean Dish A Real Old Fashioned Treat

I never used to cook using dried beans until I compared the price of dry versus canned. Now, yes, I do keep some cans of various beans in the house for convenience, but when I cook my crock pot bean dish, I start with dry beans. It’s not really as fussy as you might think. Yes, you have to plan ahead to soak the beans overnight, and then cook them before putting them in the crock pot, but the results are worth it, and the money you save isn’t bad either!
As far as slow cooker recipes go, this is a pretty traditional bean dish. I love the mustard, brown sugar, honey and barbecue sauce flavor combination. You could also brown up a little bacon instead of adding the smoke flavor. This is such a hearty dish, I’ll even make it for my family as a main dish, with just a nice green salad to go alongside. My husband hardly even misses the meat, especially if I’ve added just enough bacon to make it seem meaty.
