In recent years, since DSL has taken off with high speed internet consumers, DSL providers have been able to add on one extra to monthly costs, a land line phone line. In order to get DSL service, consumers have had to maintain a home phone for the transmission of DSL in their home or office. While this practice was acceptable when DSL first took the stage of high speed internet, this practice is coming under heavy scrutiny, as many consumers rely on cell phones as their means of communicating by telephone, and have ditched their landlines. In response to these changes, some DSL giants have rolled out what is now called “Naked DSL,” which no longer requires a land line phone to reach you.

While it is early to compare DSL providers as to their Naked service, in that really only AT&T has made the most advances in providing these services to test markets, the reaction by consumers has been a good one. By shelving the land line phone and associated monthly costs, consumers will begin to see a big difference in how much their DSL service will cost them monthly, especially when compared to cable and satellite high speed internet.
