Having a meal outdoors sounds fun and romantic, but few people seldom realize the effort behind getting a meal cooked. Without electricity, it takes more work to properly prepare food. There are no timers to tell you when you have finished preheating, and there aren’t any alarms that let you know when your food is completely cooked. Why do people still choose to have their meals outside without most of the modern conveniences? Some people prefer an alternative to traditional outdoor grilling while others may be looking to save money on their electricity bill. Outdoor cooking & storage a meal outside doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to do without all of the modern conveniences.

There are still plenty of things you can rely on without having to use electricity. The main appliance that you’ll need is a camping stove. Operating the camping stove is very straightforward, using only a push button ignite. No matches are necessary. Assembly is also very simple, requiring only an assembly hose to attach to a propane tank. Don’t forget the nylon bag for easy transportation of the stove and all of its camping gear.

We are fortunate to have plenty of blueberry bushes in our-neck-of-the-woods, so we never are denied the pleasure of hot, Blueberry Muffins day or night. When blueberry season is over, we just dig into the supply we have filling our freezer. If your family does not have access to blueberry bushes, check out the fresh fruit department in your local grocery store. If you choose the smaller size berries in the store, you’ll get a nice, sweet flavor that’s closer to hand-picked. Usually, the bigger they are the more hybrid they are, which I think lends a less desirable taste. If you aren’t happy with the fresh blueberries in your market, frozen can be just as yummy.

Blueberries, and other fresh fruits and berries, only offer short seasons in which to pick and enjoy their goodness. That’s why I maintain a fairly large collection of cheap fruit recipes. In my kitchen, I keep a box of recipes gathered from here and there, and when it’s blueberry season, I sort through the scraps of paper, put together all the blueberry recipes, and off I go to start picking!

We entertain a lot, especially at the holidays. For the special family gatherings I really like to use some of our older, nicer dishes that my grandmother had given me. But they are delicate so they have to be hand-washed. While I try to hand dry them when I can, it’s also nice to be able to have a decent dish rack to dry them on so I can spend more time with company. That’s why I was so happy when I found this attractive stainless steel dish rack from Gourmet Standard.

When it was time for me to buy a new dish rack, I knew I wanted something more interesting than the boring white rubber-coated rack I used to have. I wanted something that would last, a dish rack that wouldn’t crackle and start looking beat up or rusted. Plus I wanted to find one that had space for my wineglasses too. That’s why I was thrilled when I found this dish rack. It has plenty of space for all of my dishes, utensils, and most of all, my wineglasses to dry. And it’s the kind of kitchen gadget that looks great on my counter top, so it doesn’t bother me a bit if I forget to put it away.
