I just got my W2 from my employer. That means I can get my taxes done earlier than usual this year, and it already looks like I’ll be getting back a good chunk of change; enough to really think about buying a greenhouse. I have to admit the possibility excites me. I even know which one I would buy: the Lil’ Propagator made by Solexx. It’s a small, corrugated and insulated plastic-paneled green house, but it has a surprising amount of room. It’s portable, so I can start it out near the house where it will stay warmer and easier to heat, and then move it out into full sunlight when milder winter days get here. My brother and sister-in-law have one and they love it!

With a recession looming, and more than one thing to think about saving money for, I think a greenhouse makes sense. Food costs were the highest ever for my family this past year (a fact I realized when I was pulling together information for tax reports) so a greenhouse could be an excellent way to save money in the stores, as well as provide an education opportunity for the kids, and a fun family project. I’ll be talking to my husband about it tonight. Maybe we’ll put it to a vote with the kids.
